Making An Impact

With Billy James

Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. Tonight from the Grand Ballroom of the Manhattan Center in New York City, it’s Destination X. Last week, Austin Aries invoked Option C by cashing in the TNA X Division title for a title shot for the TNA World Heavyweight title. Tonight Austin Aries gets his shot as he takes Bobby Lashley for the TNA title. Will Aries be able to make it two in a row by winning the TNA title for a second time or will Lashley continue his dominates and leave Destination X still the TNA Champion. The Hardy Boys reunited tonight as Matt and Jeff Hardy face Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards; the Wolves for the TNA Tag Team titles. Will the Hardy add to their legacy by adding the TNA Tag Team titles to their resumes or will the Wolves be able hold on to the titles? Tonight starts the road to crown a new TNA X Division champion as there will be three triple threat qualifying matches as DZ vs. Manik, Low Ki, Brian Cage vs. Sanada vs. Crazy Steve and Tigre Uno vs. Homicide vs. Samoa. Who will move on next week to complete for the chance to become the new TNA X Division Champion? After being attack last week, Gene Snitsky & Big Z, EC3 and Team have a challenge for Team 3D and Tommy Dreamer. What is this challenge and will Team 3D and Dreamer accept the challenge? So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”

The Wolves (Davey Richards & Eddie Edwards) defeat The Hardys (Matt & Jeff Hardy) to retain the TNA Tag Team titles.

Low Ki beats Manik & DJ Z (Zema Ion) to qualify for the TNA X Division title match.

Sanada defeats Brian Cage & Crazy Steve to qualify for the TNA X Division title match.

Samoa Joe beats Homicide & Tigre Uno to qualify for the TNA X Division title match.

Bobby Lashley pins Austin Aries to retain the TNA World Heavyweight title

There’s no “No impact, Ok Impact or High Impact” this week because all the action this week was awesome.

Tonight we the return of one the greatest tag team in the past 20 years reunited as the Matt & Jeff Hardy reunited last week issuing a challenge to the Wolves (Davey Richards and Eddie Edwards) the current TNA Tag Team Champions to a match for the TNA Tag Team titles at Destination X which the Wolves accepted and what a match is was. Each team were on their games keep as control of the match went back and forth between the Hardys and the Wolves. Eddie Edwards was amazing as he hit a double hurricanrana on both Matt and Jeff which was very impressive to me. I liked it when Matt locked in the Ice Pick on Eddie Edward and then Jeff locks in the Ice Pick on Davey Richards when Richards tries to break thing up. The Wolves hit a sweet double stomp on Matt off the top ropes. I thought that the finish was awesome as Richards and Edwards hits the Force of Nature ((Powerbomb / Double knee backbreaker combination) on Matt for the win to retain the TNA Tag Team titles. I really like this match and hope to see the Hardys vs. the Wolves again. If you missed this match then go and watch it on Youtube now!

With Austin Aries vacating the TNA X Division title for title shot at the TNA Champion; we had the first of 3 Triple Threat Qualifying matches to see who will go on to complete for the X Division title next week. The first match saw Low Ki take on Manik and DJ Z (Zema Ion) which all three are former TNA X Division Champions. This was very good match with some amazing spots that shows what the X Division is all about. I think that the most impressive spot of the match was Manik having DJ Z in an Indian Death Lock and then hitting a Fishermen suplex on Low Ki for a pin attempt while still having DJ Z in the Indian Death Lock. Earlier in the match, DJ Z hit a nice double drop kick on both Low Ki and Manik. After Low Ki sent DJ Z to the outside of the ring with a foot stomp, Low Ki hits the Ki Krusher on Manik to get the win and moves onto the next to complete for the TNA X Division title.

The second X Division Triple Threat Qualifying match saw Brian Cage vs. Sanada vs. Crazy Steve complete for the second spot for the TNA X Division title match next week. While this match was the weaker of the three Triple Threat Qualifying matches I was amazed by Brian Cage’s performance during this match. There was a spot during this match where Cage hit a double fall away slam on both Crazy Steve and Sanada which was quite impressive as Cage is about the size of a Rob Terry AKA The Freak but moves like someone the size of a Sanada. The rest of the match was ok which saw Sanada get the win by hitting a Tiger suplex followed by a bridge on Crazy Steve. I’m still not a big fan of Crazy Steve and of Crazy Steve’s wrestling ability which I think has to do more with his character. It makes sense for Sanada to be the one to move on the X Division title match next week.

So in the final Triple Threat Qualifying match saw Samoa Joe come out saying that will be the next TNA X Division Champion as he gets ready to face Tigre Uno and Homicide making his return to TNA. Joe dominates most of the match with it being between him and Homicide for the most part. Uno couple of times to go for a pin attempt on Joe and Homicide but spent a portion of the match on the outside of the ring. One point during the match, Homicide tries for the Gringo Killer on Uno but Joe breaks up. The match ends with Joe hitting the Muscle Buster on Homicide for the win as Joe moves on to face Sanada and Low Ki next week where the winner will become the new TNA X Division Champion. I like seeing Joe back in the X Division as Joe will be able once again to put his own stamp on the X Division.

IMG_1253Lashley Is A Monster; A Dominating Monster That Is!

I have to say that Aires vs. Lashley for the TNA title was a damn good match with both men being very impressive in this match. Aries tries to use his speed to take Lashley down but Lashley catches Aries with a belly-to-belly suplex sending Aries to the floor. Lashley works on Aries in the ring beating Aries down until Aries nails Lashley in the ears. Aries then goes on to nail Lashley on the outside of the ring then following up with a hard forearm. Aries then gets Lashley into the Last Chancery but Lashley powers his way of the submission hold. Lashley tries for a spear but misses which Aries takes advantage hitting the Brian Buster on Lashley but Lashley kicks out of the pin attempt. Lashley rolls out of the ring which Aries goes for the suicide dive but misses hitting the guard rail face first hard. Lashley rolls Aries and hits the spear to pin Aries and retain the TNA title. I have to say that TNA is getting it right with Lashley’s title run as TNA is booking Lashley as a dominating monster champion winning with no outside interference. It makes you wonder who can beat Lashley for the title. I hope that Aries gets another title shot as Aries deserves it.

IMG_0963Going To War! New York City Style!

Impact Wrestling started off with Team Dixie (Dixie Carter, EC3, Rockstar Spud, Rhino, King Mo, Gene Snitsky and Rycklon Stephens (Ezekiel Jackson)) in the ring bragging about beating Team 3D and Tommy Dreamer last week in the New York Street Fight match. EC3 talks about how Team Dixie is going to rebuild “The House the Carters Built” and then goes on to hype each member of Team Dixie. EC3 finishes up by challenges Team 3D and Dreamer to a final showdown. Later in the show, Team 3D and Dreamer come out to the ring with the fans going nuts as Dreamer talks about going to war and then puts over the talent on the TNA roster which was cool to hear Dreamer say. EC3 and Team Carter come out telling Team 3D and Dreamer that they will fight but on “Carter’s Time” which will be next week. Bully ray grabs the mic asking EC3 “Do you know where you are???? You’re in New York City, Baby, you’re gonna DIE!” Bully states if he wanted to, he could start a riot which starts a crowd chant of Start a Riot. Bully states if they name the time, he’ll name the terms, 8 man weapons extreme hard core war. Bully says by this time next week, Dixie is going through a table. I have to say that this was some Bully Ray’s best mic work and the fans love it.

Show Rating: 9 stars

Final Thought

Wow, what another great Impact Wrestling as all of the matches were either good or great. I have to say that the Hardys vs. the Wolves was awesome and I can’t to see to them go at it again. I like that we got to see three X Division matches in which each winner moves on to next week where they complete against each other to determine the new TNA X Division Champion. I think that Low Ki vs. Sanada vs. Samoa Joe is going to be great and I can’t wait to find out who will walk out as the new X Division Champion next week. Bobby Lashley is proving to be one hell of a dominating “Heel” champion as Lashley defeated Austin Aries to retain the TNA title. Aries was impressive during this match and I was surprised that TNA didn’t put the title on Aries. I’ll be curious to see what Aries is going to do next after not being able to win the TNA title. As most of you know by now that Spike TV is not renewing Impact Wrestling and come October there may be no more Impact Wrestling on TV. With the past few shows being really good, one can only hope that Spike TV will take notice and change their minds. I guess that in the next month we’ll know more what the future holds for TNA and Impact Wrestling
