Making An Impact
With Billy James
Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. It’s Destination X live from Louisville, Kentucky Chris Sabin after vacating the TNA X Division title last week; faces Bully Ray for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. Tonight starts the tournament with current, past and new X Division Superstars to crown a new TNA X Division Champion. Who will advance in the X Division title tournament tonight? Main Event Mafia has challenged “Aces & Eights” tonight to a fight in the ring. Who will walk out still standing after that fight? Also the Bound for Glory Series continues as former tag team partners; Bobby Roode and Austin Aries face each other in a Bound for Glory Series match. Who will walk out with the important points and move up in the score board for the Bound for Glory Series? So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”
Austin Aries pins Bobby Roode in a Bound for Glory Series match
Sonjay Dutt defeats Petey Williams & Homicide in a TNA X Division Ultimate X Qualifying match
Manik beats Chavo Guerrero & Kenny King in a TNA X Division Ultimate X Qualifying match
Greg Marasciulo defeats Rubix & Rockstar Spud in a TNA X Division Ultimate X Qualifying match
Chris Sabin pins Bully Ray to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion
Haven’t We seen This Shit Before?
Ok, when Bully Ray came to talk about his match against Chris Sabin, the segment was going very well as Bully Ray was making points on he was going to kick Sabin’s ass. However the minute Bully Ray called out his “Wife” Brooke Hogan to the ring; the segment went downhill from there. Hulk Hogan didn’t help the segment either when he came out to the ring. Why do we need continue this stupid storyline with Bully Ray and Brooke Hogan? It’s not important anymore to the “Aces & Eights” storyline. Even if TNA is going to do Hulk Hogan vs. Bully Ray at Bound for Glory, they don’t need Brooke Hogan to build up to that match. A segment that could have been good was ruin in my opinion and having the Main Event Mafia come toward the end of the segment couldn’t help save that segment
Man This Segment Sucks!
The backstage segment with the Main Event Mafia and “Aces & Eights” was not that great. I was expecting at the least some kind of match in the ring but that’s not what we got tonight. Instead all we get is a brief fight in the garage with Bully Ray and Devon taking out Kurt Angle and Devon driving off with a knocked out Angle. I just think that TNA should have done more by having a real brawl or a six man tag team match. TNA is going to have to something better if this Main Event Mafia vs. “Aces & Eights” is going to work.
Hate To Tell You But This Is Going To Hurt!
The first X Division Triple Threat saw three former X Division Superstars go at tit as Sonjay Dutt, Petey Williams and Homicide who made his return to TNA. This match was quick and the action was very hard to keep up with since the match was short. I was surprise when Dutt got the win after hitting a double footstomp moonsault on Homicide to get the win moves on to the Ultimate X match next week to determine the new TNA X Division Champion
Wait! What Do You Mean That’s Not Suicide?
The second X Division Triple Threat match involved current TNA Superstars Chavo Guerrero, Kenny King and Manik which was another quick match. During the match Manik locked an Indian Death Lock type move on King while holding Guerrero in another submission hold. Chavo gets in offense of his own hitting the 3 Amigos on King while hitting two on Manik. After King knocked Chavo, Manik hits King from behind to score the win and move along to the Ultimate X match next week.
The Greatest Rematch To Ever Air!
Tonight we got a rematch from last year’s Destination X with Austin Aries vs. Bobby Roode but this time in a Bound for Glory Series match and this match did not disappoint one bit. Start of the match, each man was countering the other moves. One point during the match, Roode hit a wicked tilt a whirl back breaker. Aries hit an awesome 450 Splash onto Roode but Roode kicked out of the pin attempt. Roode counter with a cross face submission but Aries was able to break the hold. The match kept going back and forth with Aries trying for the Brain Buster while Roode kept blocking the attempt. Finally after blocking Roode’s attempts at power slam like move, Aries hits the Brain Buster on Roode and leaving the 7 points and Roode in the ring in dismay.
Holy Shit!!! It’ s Trent Barreta!!!
The third Triple Threat match saw three new comers; Rubix, Rockstar Spud & Greg Marasciulo formerly known as Trent Barreta in the WWE completing for the final spot in the Ultimate X match next week. At first I didn’t realize that was Barreta but when I did I was like “Holy Shit!” I wasn’t too impressed with Rockstar Spud as he didn’t do anything that was great. The real start of the match was Marasciulo who hit toward the end of the match a picture-perfect moonsault to Spud on the floor. The match ended when Marasciulo caught Spud in a move that look like a verision of the Styles Clash to get the win and Marasciulo moves on the final spot in the Ultimate X next week.
I’m Five Times Better Then You Bitch!!!
I’m really digging Mickie James “Heel” as Mickie in full force talking about her recent concert Nashville and how it’s the biggest thing to happen to the Knockouts division. I love how Mickie is calling her “Your Heart Breaking, History Making, Knockouts Champion of the Century.” While the statement is supposed to be a “Heelish” statement, there true to it especially with the part of “History Making.” I’m not sure whether Gail is turning “Face” but the confrontation between Gail and Mickie was well done and like the heat between the two as the match next is going to be great. I’m thinking that Mickie will retain next over Gail and hold on to the Knockouts title until Bound for Glory.
Hail Sabin!!! TNA Champion!!!
Lot of fans were curious and could wait for Chris Sabin vs. Bully Ray for the TNA World Heavyweight Championship. While the match was not technically a great, it did do a great job of telling a story which was that of Sabin being the underdog and over all the odds to win the TNA title. A third of the match was Bully Ray beating down on Sabin while trying to work on Sabin repaired knees. Sabin starts making a comeback with an Enzuigiri to Bully Ray but couldn’t get the three count due to the referee being knocked out. With Main Event Mafia and “Aces & Eights” fighting on the outside, Sabin was able to turn the tables on Bully Ray and used Bully Ray’s own hammer to knock out Bully Ray for the win becoming the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. It’s great to see Sabin get this moment as the fans in Louisville were really into the match and the fans were excited when Sabin won the TNA title. Now the question is how long will Sabin hold on to the TNA title.
Show Rating: 8
This week’s Impact Wrestling for the most part was great as the first match of the night kicked things off on the right note with Aries vs. Roode. The tournament to determine the new TNA X Division Champion was interesting with three triple threat matches which had some interesting people in the matches including Greg Marasciulo formerly known as Trent Barreta who advances to Ultimate X long with Manik and Sonjay Dutt. I’m very interested to see who is going to walking next week as the new TNA X Division title. The segment between Mickie and Gail did building up interest in the title match next week as Gail gets her title shot for the Knockouts title against Mickie. I think easily the biggest thing of the night was Chris Sabin becoming the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. While most of us knew that Sabin was going to win the TNA title, part of me thought that TNA was going to throw a curve ball at us and have Bully Ray retain the title. Great to see Sabin with the TNA title as he truly deserves it. Again the question on everyone’s mind is how long will Sabin’s title reign last. I guess we’ll just have to wait and see. Next week, Riley Ross who covers the WWE Raw and Smackdown reviews in Riley’s Corner will be writing the “Making An Impact” review as I will be very busy next week. I’ll be back a week from this Monday with a complete of the TNA house show that I will be attending a week from this Saturday.
