Making An Impact
With Billy James
Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. We’re back in the Impact Zone as it’s the return of the TNA World Heavyweight Champion; Jeff Hardy. What will Hardy to his opponent at Lockdown; Bully Ray? Tonight Sting will name the members of his team for the Lethal Lockdown match at Lockdown against “Aces & Eights” The new TNA Knockouts Champion; Velvet Sky defends the title against former champion; Tara. Also it’s the return of Gut Check as Ivelise Felez faces Lei’D Tapa. So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”
Velvet Sky pins Tara to retain the TNA Knockouts title
Austin Aries pins Hernandez
Kenny King pins Rob Van Dam to become the new TNA X Division Champion
Rob Van Dam pins Kenny King to retain the TNA X Division title
Ivelise Felez defeats Lei’D Tap by submission in Gut Check match
Bully Ray & Jeff Hardy defeat Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Kazarian)
Seriously, we had to watch a segment of Joseph Park eating ribs while trying to get Sting to make him a member of Sting’s team at Lockdown to face “Aces & Eights” while it was just a few minutes but it was still painful to watch. TNA, bring back Abyss as Abyss is a much better character.
It’s great to see Velvet Sky as the Knockouts Champion as Velvet didn’t get a fair run with the Knockout title in 2011. While the match tonight with Tara was average with interference from Jesse the match setup several things. First is that Lockdown, Velvet will defend the Knockouts title against Gail Kim which is interesting as Velvet and Gail wrestled each other at last year’s Lockdown with the roles reversed as Gail was the Knockouts Champion and Velvet was the challenger. Second thing that the match setup was a possible feud between Gail and Taryn Terrell as Gail was at announcers table complaining about Taryn being a bias referee.
Last week, I said that Austin Aries and Bobby Roode would defend the TNA Tag Team titles in a Triple Threat match against Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez plus Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels and Kazarian) at Lockdown which confirmed tonight. Hernandez wasn’t bad in this match and had some good spots during the match including a nice springboard shoulder block off the ropes onto Aries. Aries was gold despite this being a short match with an impressive suicide dive to the outside of the ring hitting Hernandez. Aries was great making fun of Chavo by doing the Frog Splash which he missed. Aires cheating to win was classic and was a perfect way to end the match giving Aries the win without making Hernandez look weak.
Tonight we saw the end of Rob Van Dam’s TNA X Division title reign as Kenny King pinned RVD to become the new X Division Champion. The match was very good and had some damn good spots. I thought that it was awesome when King landed on his feet after RVD hit the Monkey Flip out of the ring corner. I was expecting King to win but one point during the match after RVD hit Rolling Thunder and went for the 450 Splash, I thought that RVD was going to retain the X Division title but when King avoided the 450 Splash, I knew that King was going to win. I think that it was a smart move on TNA’s part to put the X Division title on King as RVD’s reign was getting boring and its great to fresh blood with the title.
The “Ace & Eights” promo was good as Devon delivered a good promo revealing what members of “Aces & Eights” would be in the Lethal Lockdown match at Lockdown that being himself, Doc, Mr. Anderson, Mike Knoxx and Garett Bischoff. Also during this segment we find out that Sting has picked for Team TNA Samoa Joe, Magnus, “The Cowboy” James Storm and “Showtime” Eric Young. Yes, Eric Young made his return as he came up behind “Aces & Eights” and attack “Aces & Eights” while the rest of Team TNA came down and joined in the fight. I think Eric Young as a member of Team TNA as no one including saw it coming which was a great surprise. I can’t wait to see what is going to happen next week.
I thought that the AJ Styles segment was interesting with the interviews with AJ’s wife and childhood friends. I think that the end of the segment was perfect with AJ showing up and leaving pissed off that TNA cameras were there. It keeps you wondering what’s up with AJ.
Again the best match of the night in a women’s match as female wrestlers as Ivelise Felez and Lei’D Tapa face each other in a Gut Check match to see who is going to get a TNA contract. I had never seen Lei’D Tapa wrestle before but I was impressed with her in the ring as Lei’D Tap has impressive look to her plus that she’s been trained by her uncle, The Barbarian. I think most wrestling fans remember Ivelise from Tough Enough and her time in WWE NXT. Ivelise was very impressive her submission moves despite Lei’D Tap’s size. While Lei’D Tap is still a little green, I think that she’s great potential and would make a great addition to the Knockouts roster. However, Ivelise has 8 years of experience and was more impressive in the ring especially with the Guillotine choke which gave Ivelise the win. I think that Ivelise is the better choice to get the TNA contract but we’ll find out you will get the TNA contract next week.
The Bully Ray\Jeff Hardy promo was ok but got better when Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Kazarian) came down to the ring with Daniels saying that the only reason why Bully Ray got the title shot at Lockdown was because of Brooke Hogan. Out of this promo we got a tag team main event which was a good match as to the best of my knowledge, Bully Ray and Jeff Hardy had never team up before and they actually worked very well as a team. I think the best part of the match was when Bully Ray had Daniels on his shoulders looking to setup for the Doomsday Device but instead Bully Ray hits the Electric chair which allows Hardy to hit the Swanton Bomb for the win. What I’m curious to see is if Bully Ray will turn “Heel” at Lockdown and if he’ll walk out the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion
I like how TNA did the end segment with Kurt Angle attacking “Aces & Eights” in their club house. It was good to see Angle taking out members of “Aces &Eights” including last masked member who Angle unmasked but we never got to see who is was as Angle was shocked at who it was and was then attacked by Wes Brisco. I can’t wait to find out who is being the mask next week as I expect that its Jeff Jarrett but I guess we’ll find out soon.
Show Rating: 7 ¾
What a damn good Impact Wrestling as we got some great buildup for Lockdown. We saw a new TNA X Division Champion crown and several storyline advancement during the show. We found out who will on Team TNA at Lockdown which saw the return of “Showtime” Eric Young. Plus we now have next week to look forward to as we now have the mystery of who is the last mask member of “Aces & Eights” that Angle unmasked. I have to say that there was just only thing wrong with this week’s Impact Wrestling that Joseph Park which was a small thing. TNA overall did a damn good job with this week’s Impact Wrestling and hopefully they will do the same next week.
Star of the Night: Ivelise Felez
