Making An Impact
With Riley Ross
“Simply Sensational Billy James here just letting everyone know that I wasn’t able to do this week’s Making An Impact review due to other commitments. Riley Ross who covers WWE Raw and Smackdown for the site in Riley’s Corner is covering this week’s Impact Wrestling for me. Big Thank You to Riley for covering this week’s Impact Wrestling for me.”
Welcome back to “Making An Impact”, I’m Riley Ross and I will be filling in for Billy James tonight. Please bear with me as this is the first time I have watched Impact in a while. They are in London, England and the show opens with recaps of the Kurt Angle storyline with Aces & 8s; Hogan and Bully Ray’s drama; Bobby Roode and Austin Aries tag team title run.
Hulk Hogan kicks off the live action show as he makes his way down to the ring. He says there will be four matches tonight to determine who will be the contender for the title at Lockdown. RVD vs. James Storm, Christopher Daniels vs. Magnus, Kurt Angle vs. Samoa Joe, Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries. I will apologize now if I botch any names. He said he will watch the matches and pick the contender that will face Jeff Hardy. He now focuses his attention on Aces & 8s. Sting is now the captain of Hogan’s team to face Aces & 8s. Sting comes out to announce that he accepts and will look for three more ‘killers’ for his team.
Magnus vs. Christopher Daniels—Christopher Daniels is accompanied to the ring by Kazarian. Magnus is the hometown boy who gets a rousing welcome. Nice block by Magnus as Daniels slams to the mat. Beautiful Vertical Suplex by Magnus. He runs to the corner to slam into Daniels but Daniels quickly moves out of the way and his partner in crime Kazarian hits Magnus. Kazarian once again interferes in the match by grabbing the ankle of Magnus. Shit that was a brutal kick by Magnus. Kazarian’s underhanded tricks finally get noticed by the referee and gets booted from ringside. Magnus goes to the top rope and delivers a flying elbow and gets the win. Your winner is Magnus.
Brooke Hogan and Bully Ray are shown backstage. He is taking her shoe shopping, dinner and dancing for Valentine’s Day. They make a cute couple. Magnus cuts a promo saying that wrestling is his life, religion and occupation. He says he used his time away to fuel his drive to succeed.
Samoa Joe vs. Kurt Angle—Nice shoulder block from Samoa Joe. I would hate to be on the receiving end of those jabs he was delivering to Angle. He goes for a pin but Angle kicks out at 2. Angle delivers a beautiful belly to belly suplex. He is trying to gain momentum by delivering kicks to his opponent who is trapped in the corner. Angle delivers another suplex. Back from the commercial break and Samoa Joe is in control. However Angle delivers a German suplex repeatedly. Samoa Joe slaps Angle down but Angle comes back with a Missile Dropkick. Angle goes for the Ankle Lock but Samoa Joe refuses to tap as he goes for the ropes. He counters and both men clothesline each other. Here comes Wes Briscoe and Garrett Bischoff to attack both men. Samoa Joe and Angle clear them out of the ring and no winner is announced.
Dixie Carter is in the back with the talent of the British Bootcamp. She is with Party Marty and the Blossom twins and tells them good luck in their match.
Party Marty/Blossom Twins vs. Tara/Gail Kim/Jesse—Jesse and Party Marty start off the match. Party Marty delivers a series of kicks to Jesse. He follows up with a bitch slap which wasn’t the smartest move ever. He delivers a springboard moonsault and goes for the cover which his opponent kicks out of. Back from commercial and Jesse tags in Tara. Holy shit the Blossom Twins can wrestle. After a couple of minutes Tara tags in Gail Kim. The veterans are getting their asses whipped by the rookies. Jesse distracts the referee while one of the twins had Gail pinned. Tara is back in the ring and she is blocking the twin from getting to her partner. Tags are made and The other twin and Gail Kim come into the ring. Tara quickly tags herself back in and the twins are double teaming their opponents. Gail Kim, Jesse and Tara win.
Brooke Hogan comes out to make an announcement regarding the Knockout’s match next week. She is going to give Gail Kim a shot at Tara’s title. She also announced that the KO’s title match next week will be a four way elimination match. Brooke Hogan will be sitting ringside to make sure no shenanigans will happen. Gail Kim vs. Tara vs. Velvet Sky vs. Miss Tessmacher.
Austin Aries and Bobby Roode are shown talking in the hallway. They are plotting to take over all the titles.
RVD vs. James Storm—This match is fast paced and full of action. Which is my favorite kind of match even if does make my head hurt from trying to keep up watching it and typing a review at the same time. James Storm did deliver a brutal kick to the back of RVD’s head. Somehow RVD is still in the match as he gets in some offense. The Cowboy hits a beautifully executed DDT and goes for a pin attempt but RVD kicks out. Nice Codebreaker from Storm. I apologize I don’t know the names of their finishers so be gentle. RVD goes for the Coast to Coast but Storm moves out of the way at the last possible second. Storm hits the Last Call and wins the match
Joseph Park is shown going to Hogan’s office. He told Hogan that the boys in the back told him he needed to ‘campaign’ to put his name in the running to face Jeff Hardy for the title. Hogan tells him to go back to the same guys in the back and ask them what a rib is. Brooke is shown pleading Bully Ray’s case to her father. She wants Bully Ray to have the chance to fight the champion Jeff Hardy.
Bobby Roode vs. Austin Aries—Before the match gets underway they reiterate their plans for winning all the gold. Does this include the KO title as well? They reassure everyone that they are on the same page and that they know what is best for the business. The bell rings and the men start arguing about who is going to lay down. Aries says he will lay down for Roode. He kicks out at 2 and goes for the rollup. Roode quickly counters and both men are up and screaming at one another. Back from commercial and the two men are locking it up in the corner. Aries is definitely showing off his athleticism and quickness. They are now trading blows back and forth in the middle of the ring. They both use submission moves trying to get the other one to tap out. Roode gets pushed into the referee and he gets knocked down. Roode uses this to his advantage and brings in a steel chair. While the ref isn’t looking he slams it down to the ground and then falls down like he was hit with the chair. Aries does the same thing and both men are down screaming like they were hit with the chair. While they are arguing here comes Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez. Aries and Roode go to meet them and then realize the referee is counting them out. They do not make it back in time and it’s a Double Count out.
Hogan is shown talking to Sting about having to make a difficult decision about who will be the number one contender. Hogan makes his way down to the ring for the major announcement. The crowd is amped up this blockbuster decision. Here comes Aces & 8s to interrupt as they make their way down to the ring. Here comes Bully Ray with a chain in hand. Here comes Sting with two baseball bats and one cricket bat in hand. Devon is saying those three men are dead. The show ends with a staredown between all parties involved.
In closing this was interesting Impact. I will definitely be watching again next week to see what happens. The match of the night goes to RVD and James Storm. This was the only match that had me glued to television. I give tonight’s show a rating of a B+. Have a good night and a better tomorrow.
