Making An Impact
With Billy James
Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. It’s the final Impact Wrestling before the Final Resolution PPV. Last week Bully Ray cost Austin Aries his chance at winning the TNA X Division title when Bully Ray interfered in Aries’s match with Rob Van Dam after Aries’s conservatory comments about Brooke Hogan. Will Austin Aries tried to get revenge on Bully Ray? What will Hulk Hogan have to say about the Bully Ray\Brooke Hogan situation? Last week, Devon challenged Samoa Joe to face him for the TNA TV title which will take place tonight. Will Samoa Joe be able retain the TV title or will Devon work out as the new TNA TV title? Also tonight, it’s a Six man Tag Team match as Bobby Roode and Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels & Kazarian) vs. AJ Styles, “The Cowboy” James Storm and the TNA World Heavyweight Champion; Jeff Hardy. Plus Kurt Angle takes on Doc of “Aces & Eights” in a one on one match. So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”
Devon pins Samoa Joe to become the new TNA TV Champion
Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez defeat Robbie E. & Robbie T.
Kenny King beats Kid Kash & Zema Ion in a Triple Threat match to become the Number #1 Contender to the TNA X Division title
Kurt Angle defeats Doc of “Aces & Eights” by disqualification
“The Cowboy” James Storm, AJ Styles & Jeff Hardy defeat Bobby Roode & Christopher Daniels
Ok, while the match between Devon and Samoa Joe was not bad but the finish left a lot to be desire. I was surprised by some of the offence that Devon had during the match including a great a spinning back elbow on Joe. I thought that having the girl in the tank top jumping on the apron and distracting the referee could have been done better. I mean I accept that TNA had to the run in to keeping the “Heel” heat on Devon and not make Joe look weak. If it had been me, I would have one of the mask members of “Aces & Eights” distract the referee while Doc hit Joe from behind in order for Devon to get the win. Personally I wished that Joe’s title reign had last a little more longer but hopefully Joe will be used in the main title picture in 2013.
Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez vs. Robbie E & Robbie T match was just a squash match to put Guerrero & Hernandez over. The match was average and had some good action but I couldn’t get into the match. After the match, Joey Ryan came down to the ring to cut a promo about his and Matt Morgan’s tag team title shot at Final Resolution where Morgan attacked Guerrero & Hernandez from behind. I said this before but I feel that a more establish team like Robbie E & Robbie T should be challenging Guerrero & Hernandez from the Tag Team title. I will say that the locker room segment with Robbie E & Robbie T was fun but also annoying at the same time.
The “Aces & Eights” segment was borderline distasteful in my opinion. While I like the fact that Impact Wrestling is not TVP thought that having these so call bar stripper dancing on poles and almost giving Devon a laptop dance. I’m not a prude but with the possibility on your teenage kids watching Impact Wrestling, the segment went a tad overboard.
So we’re back to hearing Jeff Hardy’s inner thoughts. Sorry TNA but the Jeff Hardy “Inner Thoughts” idea needs to go. Yes, it was cool at first but not it’s starting to creep me out. This is Impact Wrestling not an old Universal Monster movie that was filmed in color. Please TNA; drop the Jeff Hardy “Inner Thoughts” segments for the sanity of us fans.
The opening segment with Bobby Roode and Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels and Kazarian) with AJ Styles was interesting. I liked the fact that Roode made the comment that “It pays to be Roode” as it usually means that Roode will get what he wants by any means necessary. I thought that the interaction between Styles and Daniels was good too as it added more interest to their match at Final Resolution as it’s being called the final match between the two. I will say that Bad Influence looked stupid in those ridiculous pants with the fanny packs.
Finally after six months, fans can say “Let the pigeons loose!” as we saw the return of Velvet Sky to Impact Wrestling when Velvet came to the ring interrupting Tara and Mickie James who just recently returned from a three month absence herself. Velvet made it perfectly clear that whoever is the Champion after Final Resolution, she has her sights set on them as Velvet told the fans in the Impact Zone that 2013 will be the year of Velvet Sky. I wrote two PIPE BOMBS! About Velvet called “PIPE BOMB!: What The F@ck! Velvet Sky Gone From TNA?” and “PIPE BOMB!: No Shit Dixie! Dixie Carter Wants Velvet Sky Back In TNA” after Velvet left TNA back in June. With Velvet’s return, I see the landscape of the Knockouts division changing as I see Velvet Sky feuding with Mickie James in 2013.
Wow, I Was impress with Doc of “Aces & Eights” in his match against Kurt Angle as Doc did a great job escaping several times out the Angle Lock and blocking the Angle Slam on one occasion. Angle was a wrestling machine hitting those Germen suplexes and stay on the offense despite Doc being bigger and more stronger. While I don’t care for matches ending is disqualifications, it made sense for this one as the outcome of this match setup an Eight Tag Team match at Final Resolution between Kurt Angle, Samoa Joe, Wes Briscoe and Garett Bischoff vs. four members of “Aces & Eights”
The Triple Threat match to determine the Number #1 Contender to the TNA X Division n to the title was a damn good and I was impress with all three men. I have seen Zema Ion wrestle live twice and Ion is very impressive in the ring. The same can be said about Kid Kash who was hitting some great moves during this match including hitting a nice hurricanrana on Ion to the outside floor. I have to say that Kenny King was awesome during this match and his finishing move, the Royal Flush which he hit on In to win the match after Ion pushed Kash off the top rope to the ring floor. I thought that Ion was going to win the match but having King win the match was the right move for TNA to do.
Again Austin Aries takes the ball and makes this Bully Ray\Brooke Hogan angle which we all know is stupid actually fun and interesting. I thought that did a great job in the segments involving him and Hulk Hogan as Bully Ray really showed some real emotions during these promos. Funny as this may sound, I actually don’t have a problem with Hulk Hogan being involved in this storyline. I don’t know how long TNA is planning to go with this Bully Ray\Brooke Hogan angle but long as Aries is involved, it’s going to be fun. I can’t wait for the match between Aries and Bully Ray at Final Resolution.
The Six Man Tag Team match was also damn good match as Roode and Bad Influence had control for the early part of the match as they worked over Hardy. All six men got some great offense in during this match including Storm hitting two Back Stabbers on Roode, Styles hitting a double DDT on Roode and Kazarian and Hardy hitting the Twist of Fate to get the win for his team. One interesting thing coming out of this match is the fact that this is the second time that Storm and Styles have been arguing after a match. I’m all for a feud between Storm and Styles as it will be fresh and new.
Show Rating: 7 ¾
Now this is the kind of Impact Wrestling that you have going into Final Resolution. There was something that hyped each match for Final Resolution and we had three very good matches. I think one of the biggest things coming out of tonight’s show is the return of Velvet Sky who got one hell of a pop when she came down to the ring. I think that it’s going to be interesting to see what’s going to happen in the Knockouts division now that Velvet Sky has returned. I liked that TNA kept Brooke Hogan to only appearing when it was necessary for the storyline. I’m interested to see where the Al Snow storyline is going with Snow’s absence being explained that he was drugged. Again, a very good Impact Wrestling going into Final Resolution. Don’t forget to check out the TNA 2012 Final Resolution podcast with myself and John Mayer as we will run down the card for Final Resolution and give our predictions for each match.
Star of the Night: Jeff Hardy & Kenny King (Honorable Mention: Velvet Sky)
