Making An Impact
With Billy James
Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. Tonight is Championship Thursday as the TNA X Division Champion; Rob Van Dam will defend the title against an opponent to pick Hulk Hogan. Who will challenge RVD for the X Division title? Last week, Wes Briscoe became the first Gut Check contestant to win his Gut Check match as Briscoe pinned Garett Bischoff. Will the Gut Check judges decide to give Wes Briscoe a TNA contract? Also last week, Austin Aries called out Brooke Hogan accusing Brooke of having an intimate relationship with Bully Ray to the dismay of Hulk Hogan. What will Aries have in store for the Hogans and Bully Ray? Tonight Mickie James takes on Gail Kim in a one on one match. Also “The Cowboy” James Storm tags with AJ Styles to face the team of Christopher Daniels and Kazarian. So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”
Mickie James pins Gail Kim
Bobby Roode defeats Christian York by submission
“The Cowboy” James Storm & AJ Styles defeat “Christopher by disqualification
Wes Briscoe wins Gut Check
“The Blueprint” Matt Morgan pins Douglas Williams
Austin Aries beats Rob Van Dam by disqualification; Rob Van Dam retains the TNA X Division title
I think that the few complains that I really have with this week’s Impact Wrestling is that there was little build up for most of the matches that have already been announce for Final Resolution. I mean that we had no buildup what so ever for the match between Mickie James and Tara for the TNA Knockouts title. I mean these two Knockouts had one hell of a feud in 2010 which ended with that famous steel cage match two years ago on Impact Wrestling. November and December always have PPVs that are put together with very little time for buildup to hype the PPV. TNA is not the only one guilt of this as the WWE also does it too.
Did we really need a Matt Morgan squash match tonight? We’re two weeks away from Final Solution and TNA has pretty much setup Matt Morgan and Joey Ryan vs. Chavo Guerrero and Hernandez for the TNA Tag Team title. Then why just have a squash match with someone that won’t even be on the PPV (Doug Williams is a damn good wrestler but Williams is being used at OVW as a trainer). TNA should have had Morgan take on Guerrero in a squash match which would have spark some interest in the Tag Team title which has been made official for Final Resolution.
Mickie James vs. Gail Kim is what a real Women’s wrestling match looks like. These two put on a damn good five minute match with each woman getting some great offense against the other. I thought the neck breaker that Mickie hit on Gail was impressive while the body scissors submission hold Gail had on Mickie was good too. That Mickie DDT off the top rope look sick (sick in a good way). Mickie has come back looking better then ever. I can’t wait for her match against Tara at Final Resolution.
The Bobby Roode promo was good did add some buildup to the match between him and Jeff Hardy at Final resolution for the TNA World Heavyweight title. I thought that did a great job with the promo by hyping the fact that he dominate during his reign as TNA Champion and has the longest title reign in TNA history. I was a little surprised that Christian York came out to challenge Roode to a match as I thought Hardy would come down to confront Roode. Having Hardy come down after the Roode\York match to save York was the right thing for TNA to do and it got Hardy even more over with the crowd.
Again Christian York shows why he deserves to be on the main roster with his match this week against Bobby Roode. I thought York did a great job in the ring with Roode and hit some great moves on Roode like the double stomp off the top rope and DreamScape. York also was able to kick out of Roode’s fisherman suplex which was impressive. Despite loosing to Roode by submission, I thought York looked great during this match. I had originally said that York would make a great addition on the X Division but now I could see York being the TV Champion,
I’m interested to see where TNA is going with the Al Snow not showing up at Impact Wrestling angle. I’m seeing a couple possible directions that TNA could be going with this. One is that Kurt Angle is behind Snow not being at Impact Wrestling because he knew Snow was going to vote “No” for Wes Briscoe. Another possibility is that D-Lo Brown wants Snow’s job, Third possibility which if this is where TNA is going then it would be brilliant is that Al Snow is a part of “Aces & Eights.” No matter what direction TNA is going with this angle.
The Storm and Styles vs. Daniels and Kazarian who now referring to themselves as Bad Influence was a good match but with Storm doing most of the work for his team. Daniels and Kazarian showed why they are a great team and they did a great job working over Styles. Though out the match, Styles was missing move which I think TNA is using this to setup turning Styles heel. I thought Storm hitting the Last Call after Styles missed the Pele. I look for Storm and Styles to feud next year most likely at the Against All Odds PPV.
Austin Aries is the man as Aries is making the Brooke Hogan\Bully Ray fun and interesting. I was laughing my ass off with some of the comments that Aries made about Brooke Hogan which really got Aries heat from the crowd. Aries and RVD had a great match as Aries was picked to be RVD’s opponent for the TNA X Division title. I liked Aries’s explanation of wanting to win the X Division title so he’ll have a shot at the TNA title at Destination X. The match itself between RVD and Aries was awesome and the best match of the night. I liked how Aries mocked RVD by doing a variation of Rolling Thunder onto RVD. RVD had some moments in the match working Aries over on the outside of the ring. I wished that the match didn’t end in a disqualification but I understand why TNA did it that way in order to add more buildup to the Aries\Bully Ray feud that TNA has setup. I don’t have a problem with Hulk or Brooke Hogan being involved in the storyline as Aries is making it fun.
Show Rating: 7
Not a bad Impact Wrestling which is back to being Live which helps the show in my opinion. We had four good matches with Aries vs. RVD being the best of the night. The “Aces & Eights” segment was ok but camera angles sucked. ODB interview was interesting and makes you wonder if TNA is going to vacate the TNA Knockouts Tag Team titles and just retire them. TNA also gave some hints of a Storm\Styles which I think will be a damn good feud. We also got three matches set for next week as Samoa Joe will defend the TNA TV title against former TV Champion; Devon of “Aces & Eights”. Also Doc (Luke Gallows) of “Aces & Eights” vs. Kurt Angle and in a Six Man Tag Team match it’s Jeff Hardy, AJ Styles and “The Cowboy” James Storm vs. Bobby Roode and Bad Influence (Christopher Daniels and Kazarian). But the biggest thing that came out of tonight’s Impact Wrestling was that Lockdown 2013 will take place at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas. Lockout is one of TNA’s better PPV and I think that 2013’s Lockdown won’t disappoint anyone. I’ve reading a lot people of Facebook trashing TNA for holding Lockout at the Alamodome in San Antonio, Texas which I’ll have a lot to say about it during this week’s Wrestling Debate podcast.
