Making An Impact
With Billy James
Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. It’s the final Impact Wrestling going into Turning Point as tonight AJ Styles face Bobby Roode. Who gain the momentum going into the Triple Threat Number #1 Contender match at Turning Point? After taking bad beat down from “Aces & Eights”; Kurt Angle teams Sting face two members of “Aces & Eights” in a tag team. What will “Aces & Eight” have in store for the TNA roster as another member was unmasked (Luke Gallows) last week. Last week, Jeff Hardy up the stake the TNA title match as the match is now a ladder match. What will Austin Aries have say about the ladder match this Sunday at Turning Point? So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”
Bobby Roode pins AJ Styles
ODB pins Tara in a Handicap match against Tara & Jeese
Kurt Angle & Sting defeat “Aces & Eights” (Doc & Devon) by disqualification
Christian York wins Gut Check
Magnus pins Samoa Joe in a Six Man Tag Team match (Magnus, Christopher Daniels & Kazarian vs. Samoa Joe, Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez)
If you have read my articles and reviews on regular bases then you know that I’m a big fan of the Knockouts division but this Knockouts match just horrible to watch. Why not have a non title match between ODB and Tara? ODB vs. Tara are ok but to me they have no real chemistry in the ring. I guess from a storyline stand point, the match made sense to setup the match at Turning Point with Tara and Jeese vs. ODB and Eric Young. Personally this is one of two matches that I’m not looking forward to at Turning Point.
I’ll keep this one simple, the Joseph Park segment sucked. Bully Ray made the segment somewhat bearable but it still stuck. Now we have Joseph Park vs. Doc of “Aces & Eights” at Turning Point to look forward to. I highly recommend going to the bathroom during this match.
Too many Hulk Hogan segments, enough said!
Wow, what a way to open up Impact Wrestling with AJ Styles vs. Bobby Roode with “The Cowboy” James Storm doing guest commentary. This went about twenty minutes with some great action with each man blocking each other’s finishing moves including Roode blocking the Styles Clash and Styles kicking out of the fisherman’s suplex. Another thing that I thought added to the drama of the match was Storm coming down to the ring when Roode was going to try to use a steel chair on Styles. This lead to Storm and Styles arguing and allowed Roode to push Styles off the ropes and roll Styles to get the win. This was perfect finish to the match as it shows that it’s every man for himself in the Triple Threat Number #1 Contender match at Turing Point which should be a show stealer.
While the tag team between Sting and Kurt Angle vs. “Aces & Eights” (Doc & Devon) the finish to the match was unbelievable. When Doc (Luke Gallows) started beating with the hammer used to ring the bell, I saying “Holy Shit!’ so loud that my cat about jump out of his fur. That beating to Sting makes fans believe that “Aces & Eights” are the “Bad Asses” that they claim to be. Now with Kurt Angle facing Devon at Turning Point, you’re left wondering what “Aces & Eights” have in store for Angle at Turning Point. I have a theory but you just have to listen to the TNA Turning Point Preview Podcast with myself and John Mayer to find out what that theory is.
Christian York becomes the first Gut Check contestant to get two “Yes” from the Gut Check judge without needing a tie breaker vote. I think that Taz sum it up when he said “It’s a no brainer.” Taz was absolutely right as York was just awesome last week against Xema Ion. York has the look, the wrestling ability and got over with the fans. I hope that TNA doesn’t send York to OVW but use York right away on the main roster. York would be a perfect opponent for Joey Ryan and they could use the Gut Check angle between the two. I see great things for Christian York in TNA.
The six man tag team match was interesting and very good as you had Samoa Joe and Magnus as the third man on each team. I thought that each team has great chemistry together and work very well with each other. I was more focus on Joe and Magnus as they have really build up this feud between which Joe will defend the TV title against Magnus in a No DQ match. It was a little hilarious when Daniels was doing Gundam Style after hitting a reverse neck breaker on Chavo. I think that both matches at Turning Point are going to be good but I forward the Samoa Joe vs. Magnus more.
The best segment of the night by far was the Austin Aries\Jeff Hardy segment involving the ladder hyping the Ladder match for the TNA title at Turning Point. I laughed when Aries took a cheap shot at CM Punk while cutting his promo. I also like the fact that Aries said he wasn’t giving Hardy the TNA belt back and that Hardy would have to come down and take from him. I think having Hardy hang both belts and had them raise above the ladder was cool. But what was even better was Aries knocking Hardy off the ladder and then setting the ladder on top Hardy as Aries climb to the top of the ladder holding both belts. It was a perfect note to end Impact Wrestling on. I’m for sure going to watch this match on the web.
Show Rating: 7 ½
This Impact wrestling was much better than last week’s show. There was great build up for the matches at Turning Point and some great matches. I’m glad that Christian York is now a member of the TNA roster as he will make a great addition to the X Division and will be the X Division Champion in the near future. We also got three more matches announced for Turning Point including Joey Ryan vs. Rob Van Dam for the TNA X Division title. I wish that TNA would stop and get rid the Joseph Park character and stop using Hulk Hogan every other segment. Austin Aries was pure gold tonight with his promo and had the crowd eating from his hand. I’m pumped for Turning Point and to see aftermath next week on Impact Wrestling. Don’t forget to check out The TNA Turning Point Preview Podcast this weekend with myself and John Mayer.
