Making An Impact
With Billy James
Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. Tonight is the aftermath coming off of the incredible Bound for Glory PPV as Jeff Hardy defeated Austin Aries to become the new TNA World Heavyweight Champion. What will the new TNA Champion have to say and what will Austin Aries have say about his lost at Bound for Glory? Also “Aces & Eights” were able to beat Sting and Bully Ray to gain full access to the Impact Zone with the help of a mystery person who was revealed to be Devon. Will Devon explain his actions at Bound for Glory? After one year of struggling to get revenge, “The Cowboy” James Storm defeated Bobby Roode at Bound for Glory. What will be next for James Storm? So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”
Samoa Joe defeats Robbie E. by submission to retain the TNA TV title.
ODB pins TNA Knockouts Champion; Tara in a non-title match
Chavo Guerrero & Hernandez beat Kid Kash & Gunner
Kurt Angle defeats Christopher Daniels & AJ Styles in a triple threat match
Sting wins by disqualification over Devon
Ok, Jeff Hardy is the new TNA World Heavyweight Champions as TNA decided to put the TNA title on Hardy at Bound for Glory. I see the logical in TNA putting the title on Hardy as TNA is trying to get Hardy to resign before his contract in up in March 2013. What I don’t like is the new title belt that Hardy came out with during the celebration segment. I personally think that the belt is ugly and looks like a title belt used in a third rate Independent Wrestling promotion. I get it that TNA is doing everything to please Hardy but I think TNA is going overboard in replacing the TNA title belt with this custom belt. I think that Austin Aries said it best when Aries said “That’s not my title belt.”
Somebody please explain to me why you would book your new TNA Knockouts Champion to loose her first match after winning the Knockouts title at Bound for Glory? On top of having Tara loose the match, they had her come out with her “Hollywood” boyfriend, Jeese from Big Brother. Seriously, I was expecting Tara’s “Hollywood” boyfriend to be John Hennigan AKA John Morrison. It was a big letdown and having Jeese out there with Tara actually took away from the match which is sad since this wasn’t a bad match. I don’t know who’s worst, Eric Young or Jeese being out by ringside during a Knockouts match. With Tara’s lost this week, it makes you wonder if Brooke Tessmacher is going to regain the Knockouts title as Brooke gets her rematch next week during Championship Thursday on Impact Wrestling.
Please TNA, keep Hulk Hogan to one segment and don’t let the segment go longer than five minutes. Hogan is boring and doesn’t need to be on the show every 15 minutes. I don’t have problem with TNA using Hogan as the General Manage since Hogan is still well known but he’s but the “House Hold” name that he used to be. Also get rid of Joseph Park as the character is stupid and waste of Chris Park’s talents as Abyss. I wish someone at TNA would listen to what I’m saying and fix the problem.
The Tag Team division in TNA is in desperate need of help as the division just sucks. There are no real tag teams as TNA has just been throwing guys together as a tag team which is not a solution to the problem. I really don’t have a problem with Chavo and Hernandez being the TNA Tag Team Champions but there are just two heel tag teams for Chavo and Hernandez to feud with. TNA needs more real tag teams like Generation Me, Motor City Machine Guns or the Robbies. The match tonight was good with both teams showing great chemistry with their partners. I look for Chavo and Hernandez to feud with Christopher Daniels and Kazarian but it can go only so far before it gets old.
Wow, what a shock when Devon was revealed to be a member of “Aces & Eights” at Bound for Glory. I personally didn’t see it coming and the fans in Phoenix didn’t either. I’m glad that TNA started off Impact Wrestling with Devon explaining somewhat his actions at Bound for Glory but the biggest thing coming out of this segment was the fact that Devon is not the leader of “Aces & Eights.” It keeps the mystery going and makes people wonder who is really behind “Aces & Eights.” Despite what other review sites are saying, Devon’s promo was not that bad. True, Devon isn’t the greatest on the mic but he’s better than Jeff Hardy.
Samoa Joe was a beast tonight and Joe totally squashed Robbie E. while defending the TNA TV title against Robbie E. It’s nice to see Joe getting this kind of pushed and is being used every week. This is the third time in one week that Joe has defended the TV title as Joes has beaten Rob Van Dam, Magnus and Robbie E. I’m hoping that TNA keeps it up having Joe defending the TV title every week.
Wow, it looks like during the triple threat match, TNA teased a possible feud between Kurt Angle and AJ Styles with Styles possibility being the heel. I think that while these two have wrestled each other before, I think that this something we haven’t seen in a while and it will be fresh to new views. I thought that the triple threat match itself was damn good and the best match of the night with Angle winning after he hit the Angle slam on Daniels. Styles had a nice spot during the match when Styles hit a hard Pele on Angle. I don’t think that Angle will get the TNA title shot next week but I look for AJ Styles vs. Kurt Angle to be made for Turning Point.
Thanks God for Austin Aries who saved the Jeff Hardy’s celebration segment as Hardy was just terrible on the mic. Aries was perfect being the arrogant ex-champion telling Hardy that he’s going to wait for the right time invoke his rematch clause. I love it when Aries said to the crowd “Why weren’t you in Phoenix because they were chanting my name, not Hardy’s.” Aries was great on the mic and I can’t wait to see Aries vs. Hardy II which I bet will take place at Turning Point.
Matt Morgan made his return to Impact Wrestling in a segment involving Joey Ryan and Hulk Hogan. I loved the aggressiveness that Morgan showed when Hogan said that TNA management wasn’t impress with Morgan and that Hogan supposedly stood up for him. This is way Morgan should be booked during his first run in TNA, a bad ass who has no problem getting into people’s faces. Also it was cool to Joey Ryan but it’s still weird that Ryan is working with Morgan. Don’t be surprise if Ryan is RVD’s opponent as turning for the TNA X Division title.
I like the confrontation between Bobby Roode and James Storm. Their match at Bound for Glory was one the bloody matches that I’ve ever since and I was surprised when Roode’s music hit as I thought that the feud was over. I’m not sure where the feud can go after that brutal match at Bound for Glory but I can’t wait to see. Storm got a big pop when he hit the Last Call on Roode. I look for Roode and Storm to face each other again at Turning Point.
I thought it was cool when the TNA roster banded together to take on the members of “Aces & Eights.” It reminds of the WCW roster banding together to take on the NOW. While the match between Devon and Sting was average, the point of the match was to show that “Aces & Eights” will stop at nothing to accomplish their goals. I think that it was smart on TNA to do Sting vs. Devon as Devon vs. Bully Ray will be a great fro Turning Point. My only question is when will we find out who is behind “Aces & Eights”.
Show Rating: 5 out of 10
Well, this week’s Impact Wrestling was average which is a little disappointing as Bound for Glory was a great PPV. Most the matches were good with the triple threat match with Angle, Styles and Daniels being the best match of the night. Austin Aries was just awesome on the mic during the Hardy segment which in my opinion saved that segment. I thought Devon did a decent job cutting his promo and his match with Sting was not bad either. However, TNA needs to get back on track and stop half assing things. Next week looks a little more promising as we have two title matches with Jeff Hardy defending the TNA title and the rematch from Bound for Glory; Brooke Tessmacher vs. Tara for the TNA Knockouts title. Maybe for an extra bonus, we’ll get Samoa Joe defending the TNA TV title too.
Star of the Night: Austin Aries & Kurt Angle
