An Independent Point Of View
With Billy James
Welcome to a special edition of An Independent Point Of View. Last night I went to my first Ring Of Honor show at the Rahway Rec Center, home of Pro Wrestling Syndicate. As a huge wrestling fan I was quite interested in there product. Here are my thoughts on last night.
Me and my friend Deanna purchased 3rd row tickets for 30 dollars which was not bad. Before the show there was an autograph signing with Jay Lethal, Maria, TV Champion Adam Cole, Michael Elgin and Prince Nana. I purchased all but Maria (sorry Maria) and got my pictures taken with them. I also purchased 2 DVD’s for 30 dollars. Now on to my thoughts on the show.
Now I have been to the Rec Center for TNA as well as PWS and they both had A LOT more seats available then ROH did last night. I would say there was maybe 300 people at most last night in a place that has fit close to 1000 for PWS. But I’ll say this for as few people that were there last night we were loud all night as the matches were good. In all there were 8 matches and I am going to talk about them.
MATCH 1:MIKE BENNETT VS MICHAEL ELGIN
This was a damn good back and forth match. Both Truth Martini and Maria got involved which did take away from the match a little but Elgin still won with his Powerbomb into the corner followed by a sitout Powerbomb for the win.
MATCH 2: 3.0 VS THE BRAVADO BROTHERS
I never heard of 3.0 and the Bravado Brothers looked like Justin Beiber’s long lost cousins. During the match there were multiple Justin Beiber chants which really pissed the Bravado’s off. The Bravados won with a double team move then during the post match handshake they kicked both members of 3.0 in the gut.
MATCH 3: BOBBY FISH VS QT MARSHALL
I knew Marshall from wrestling in PWS and he was as cocky in ROH. In the first upset of the night Fish gets the win with a spin kick to Marshall’s head.
MATCH 4: STEVE CARINO & JIMMY JACOBS VS WRESTLING’S GREATEST TAG TEAM VS RHETT TITUS & BJ WHITTMER FOR THE ROH TAG TITLES
Charlie Haas has become a complete and total ASSHOLE. Last night he was flipping off the crowd and talking so much shit I was just stunned. As for Shelton he showed why he is the best athlete in wrestling. This was an elimination match which saw WGTT get eliminated first then take there frustrations out on Titus by bashing him with a chair which allowed Carino to get the win.
MATCH 5: RODERICK STRONG VS KYLE O’REILLY
Another good match between 2 talented guys. Strong got a nice pop from the Jersey crowd despite having Truth Martini in his corner. Strong showed off his array of backbreakers and won with a suplex turned into double knee backbreaker.
MATCH 6: DAVEY RICHARDS VS MIKE MONDO
This was the match of the night. These guys had a damn good match with a lot of back and forth action. Richards made Mondo tap out then got on the mic and went on a rant and gave Mondo a proper introduction to ROH by not only extending his hand but also held the ring rope open for Mondo as he left the ring.
MATCH 7 THE BRISCOE BROTHERS VS EDDIE EDWARDS AND ADAM COLE
The Briscoes have been in ROH since the beginning. Adam Cole is the current TV Champion and Eddie Edwards was the 1st ever Triple Crown Champion. This was an excellent tag team match with both teams looking good. The end came when the Briscoes hit the Doomsday Device for the win.
MAIN EVENT: JAY LETHAL VS KEVIN STEEN(c) FOR THE ROH WORLD TITLE
What started as a good match ended really shitty. These guys went for about 20 minutes back and forth. Once Corino and Jacobs came out the shit got crazy. Steen got involved with Lethal’s family and that caused Lethal to just go insane causing a no contest. I’m sorry but no main event should end in a no contest.
Overall the show was good until the end. I give the show a 7 out of 10. It would have been higher if not for the shitty ending. Well that’s it for this review. Join me next week when I review the Pro Wrestling Syndicate show which I know won’t end in a no contest.
