Making An Impact: TNA Impact Wrestling Review for 08-23-12

Making An Impact

With Billy James

Welcome to “Making An Impact” review for TNA Impact Wrestling. I’m Simply Sensational Billy James with the fallout from Impact Wrestling. It’s Open Fight Night as last week, Sting challenged “Aces of Eights” to show up to the Impact Zone for Open Fight Night. Will “Aces of Eights” show up and accept Sting’s challenge? Will Hulk Hogan show up to help take on “Aces of Eights”? Also its Gut Check tonight as Kris Lewie gets the chance to earn a TNA contract. What will happen with the Bound for Glory Series as “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero was brutally attacked by “Aces of Eights” at Hardcore Justice? So let’s get started by asking yourself this one question? “Are you ready to feel the Impact?”

Matches

Tara pins Brooke Tessmacher in a non title match.

Robbie defeats Rob Van Dam and AJ Styles in a Bound for Glory Series Triple Threat match.

Jeff Hardy beats Robbie T.

Gunner pins Kris Lewie in a Gut Check match.

Mr. Anderson pins Bully Ray in a Bound for Glory Series match.

No Impact

I was not impressed with Kris Lewie who was this month’s Gut Check contestant. Lewie is green and it showed in the ring as I felt that he was botching several moves during the match. I don’t know if I would have used Gunner to go against Lewie as I just didn’t see any true chemistry between the two. I really hope that Lewie doesn’t get a contract as he needs to get more experience on the independent circuit. For anyone who is wondering what happens to those who have won TNA contracts, they are ready getting a TNA development contract and are being sent Ohio Valley Wrestling. Only good thing about this week’s Gut Check is if Joey Ryan shows up next week.

Are you out of your F@CKING MIND TNA? The TNA World Heavyweight Champion; Austin Aries just stands in the background and then gets beaten up by “Aces of Eights”. TNA, why wouldn’t you start setting up who’s going face Aries for the TNA title at No Surrender is beyond me. No Surrender is in three week and not one match has been setup. Totally major letdown to me that Aries did nothing last night. Not a good way TNA to treat your World Heavyweight Champion.

Where’s Bobby Roode this week? Last week, TNA has Roode where he cut an interesting promo but they don’t follow up with it. I’m really interested to find out what is next for Roode as he can’t challenge for the TNA title long as Aries is the TNA Champion. Also Roode was attacked by “Aces of Eights” several weeks ago. So why wasn’t Roode at least out helping the other TNA Superstars against “Aces of Eights”? I just don’t get what is going though the mind of TNA but a major mistake by TNA for not following up with Roode.

While I loved that TNA uses Open Fight Night to remember things that has happen in the past like Jeff Hardy being blindsided by Robbie T. when Hardy confronted Robbie E. before the Bound for Glory series match at Hardcore Justice. With that said, the match sucked. Robbie T. was just stiff to me in the ring. Robbie T. is supposed to be this bad ass but he looked like a wimp in this match. Worst match of the night for sure.

High Impact

That was interesting triple threat for a Bound for Glory series match. This match happen because “The Pope” D’Angelo Dinero is out of the Bound for Glory series and the Pope was suppose to face AJ, RVD and Robbie as the Pope hadn’t face these men yet in the Bound for Glory series. I was surprise how good Robbie actually was during this match. Yes, AJ and RVD were battle each other though out most of the match but the match but Robbie had his moments in the match. I was surprised that Robbie got the win but it works because of the match being a triple threat; Robbie got the win without making RVD or AJ looking weak. As AJ and RVD are in the top four, giving Robbie the points keeps the Bound for Glory series more of a tight race.

Wow, the Mr. Anderson vs. Bully Ray match was better than what I thought it would be. I say that because Anderson and Bully Ray’s wrestling styles are totally different. I love the near falls which both men kicked out of the other’s finishing moves. When Anderson blocked the Bully Bomb and later hit the Mic Check, I knew Anderson was going to win. What I thought was interesting that despite Anderson getting the win and the seven points, Anderson is out of the Bound for Glory series since Anderson is not in the top four in the score board. Another thing that surprises me is that this match was the main event. I thought it should have been the triple threat match but that’s just me.

Thank God that the stupid Claire Lynch storyline is over! What started out as an interesting storyline between AJ Style and Dixie Cater was ruined when TNA went this Claire Lynch baby drama. The actress that TNA hired to play Claire; Julia Reilly was such terrible actress that she made Eve Torres and Kelly Kelly look like Academy Award winning actresses. Away, TNA ended the Claire storyline due to Julia Reilly quiting because she was being harass by fans online. Julia should have known that people would have found out who she was anyway due to the internet. I’m sure if Julia Reilly hadn’t quit, the Claire storyline would still be going. Hopefully now AJ Styles, Christopher Daniels and Kazarian can get better storylines. By the way Daniels, James Bond called and wants his martini back.

Brooke Tessmacher the TNA Knockouts Champion shocked fans when she challenged her mentor; Tara to a match. This was a good match as Brooke pulled out some good moves against Tara and Brooke got somewhat aggressive with Tara during the match. Taryn Terrell now the official Knockouts referee showed how new she is to refereeing as she was slow to make some calls during the match. I still think with a little time, Taryn will be a good referee. Tara was impressive during this match and won the match with a nice Superplex from the top rope. I say that Tara will get a title shot against Brooke at No Surrender. Will one of them turn heel? We’ll just have to wait and see.

Tonight it was the TNA Superstars vs. “Aces of Eights” as Sting started off Impact Wrestling daring “Aces of Eight” to come down to the ring. It was cool to see the “Faces” and “Heels” unite against “Ace of Eights”. I think a lot of the backstage fighting at the end of Impact Wrestling was pre taped but It could have been live. I liked how the camera men shoot the video without showing the faces of the members of “Aces of Eights” which keeps up the mystery as to who they are. I’m starting to think that the main on screen guy for “Aces of Eights” is Abyss. Just by the size of the guy and his mannerisms makes me believe that he’s Abyss. I strongly believe however that Jeff Jarrett is the mastermind behind “Aces of Eights”.

Show Rating: 6.5 out of 10

Final Thoughts

Ok, this was a decent Impact Wrestling as the good slightly out edged the bad. The Bound for Glory series is coming to an end as the top four will go on to No Surrender to determine who will face Austin Aries for the TNA title at Bound for Glory. While “The Cowboy” James Storm is still in the running, I think it will either be Kurt Angle or Samoa Joe who will win the Bound for Glory series and go on to face Aries at the Bound for Glory PPV. I’m interested to see whether TNA is going to start a feud between Tara and Brooke Tessmacher and if so who will turn heel. Also where the “Aces of Eights” storyline is going and who’s all involved in the group as this is something I’m looking forward to. Hopefully TNA will keep the good things going and the best thing that TNA can do is to keep Impact Wrestling live.
