John Mayer: I Like It RAW For 7/23/12

I’M BACK! Welcome everyone to the return of I Like It RAW! This week is the big 1000th RAW. I was 12 years old when RAW came on air back in 1993 and I have seen just about every episode. On this weeks show we will see John Cena cash in his Money In The Bank briefcase for a shot at CM Punk and the WWE Title. Also we will see some of the WWE Legends who helped make RAW the longest running show on TV. Without further ado let us go to the ring.

With RAW being 3 hours long it is going to be a pain to do a full review. So until I figure out a solid way to do my reviews I will to my top picks from the evening.

  1. DEGENERATION X REUNITES

It was quite appropriate to start off the 1000th RAW with one of the groups that caused the most ruckus on RAW and that is Degeneration X. While at first the 2 original members,Triple H and Shawn Michaels, came out they were soon joined by The Road Dogg,Billy Gunn, and X-Pac. The group was doing there normal skits when all of a sudden Damien Sandow comes out spitting out all this nonsense. Therefore for his troubles he not only got Sweet Chin Music from Michaels but a Pedigree from Triple H. This would not be the last time we see Triple H tonight.

  1. DOLPH ZIGGLER COSTS TEAM 6 MAN MATCH

Last week in a segment we saw Chris Jericho give Dolph Ziggler a Codebreaker. This week both Jericho and Ziggler were teamed up with Alberto Del Rio to face Rey Mysterio,Sin Cara, and World Champion Sheamus. Towards the end of the match Jericho was going for a Springboard Dropkick when Ziggler hit his own teammate which allowed The Great White to hit a Brouge Kick on Jericho for the 3 count. Could we see a Jericho/Ziggler match at Summerslam? After this we just may.

3. BRODUS CLAY DESTROYS JACK SWAGGER

Before this disaster of a match started Brodus introduced us to one of the 3 Faces Of Foley in Dude Love. This match lasted all of 15 seconds which saw Clay win with a Big Splash. After the match Dude pulls out a Tye Dye Socko and shoves it down Swagger’s throat. I feel bad for Swagger. He is a talented athlete who is just getting shit on which is not right.

  1. AJ SAYS NO TO DANIEL BRYAN BUT YES TO BEING THE NEW RAW GM

In what was the biggest shock of the night AJ Lee is now the new General Manager of RAW. Before the wedding we see Daniel Bryan talking to men in all white who looked like they were from a mental house. During the vows which were done by Slick AJ and Bryan both say YES. Before Slick can announce them as married AJ stops him and lets everyone know she wasn’t saying YES to Daniel but to Vince McMahon. Vince lets Daniel know this is a business proposal and announces AJ as the new RAW General Manager. We all know AJ is just nuts but her as RAW GM is quite interesting to say the least.

  1. THE ROCK GETS A WWE TITLE MATCH AT THE ROYAL RUMBLE

While Daniel is still in the ring bitching CM Punk comes out to rub salt in Bryan’s wounds and says Bryan can throw his temper tantrums Punk will continue to be the WWE Champion. Bryan says he is the greatest superstar of all time which brings out The Rock. He announces that he has been given a WWE Championship Match at the 2013 Royal Rumble. Punk says that at the Rumble The Rock will be facing him. Bryan starts to scream NO which in turn has Rock call him a character from Lord Of The Rings and then give him a Rock Bottom. Now whoever faces Rock at the Royal Rumble will have a tall mountain to climb.

  1. THE MIZ BECOMES A TRIPLE CROWN CHAMPION

Last week on RAW it was announced that Christian would be defending the Intercontinental Championship on the 1000th RAW. We found out this week that his opponent would be The Miz. Early in the match it looked like Christian hurt his knee following a CrossBody from the top to the floor. Christian tried to continue to fight but the knee gave away which allowed Miz to hit the Skull Crushing Finale for the win and the Intercontinental Championship. With this win Miz now becomes the 25th Triple Crown Champion in the WWE History.

  1. BROCK LESNAR ACCEPTS TRIPLE H’S CHALLENGE FOR SUMMERSLAM

For the second time tonight we see Triple H come down to the ring. This time he calls out Brock Lesnar for an answer to his challenge that he issued a couple weeks prior. Instead of Lesnar we get Paul Heyman. Heyman says Brock sent him out to answer the challenge which his answer was NO. Triple H and Heyman exchange insults until Heyman goes after Triple H’s children which brings out Stephanie McMahon. McMahon calls Heyman a failure and gives him a nice slap to the face. After the slap Heyman agrees to the match for Lesnar. Heyman once again insults the children which causes Stephanie to attack Heyman which brings Lesnar out. Just like the first time Lesnar takes control early however The Game fights back and manages to clothesline Lesnar out of the ring. I expect this match at Summerslam to be some kind of No DQ match which will be awesome.

  1. HEATH SLATER LOSES TO ANOTHER LEGEND,LITA

Over the past 2 months Heath Slater has been getting beat up by WWE Legends every week. This week he challenges a legend to a No Countout No DQ match and that is answered by Lita. Before the match begins she lets Slater know she hired some protection for the evening in the form of Ron Simmons and Bradshaw better known as The APA. Slater tries to bail but all the Legends that Slater has lost to come out and bring him back to the ring. A Twist Of Fate from Lita followed by a Clothesline From Hell from Bradshaw and a Lita Moonsault result in yet another defeat for the One Man Band. After the match we get a DAMN from Ron Simmons.

  1. THE BROTHERS OF DESTRUCTION RE-UNITE

Before the main event match Kane comes out. Before he can finish his gimmick we hear the music of Jinder Mahal. Out comes Mahal with Curt Hawkins,Tyler Reks,Hunico,Camacho, and Drew McIntyre. Mahal says they have not been given an opportunity but tonight they are going to make one. With that we get the GONG and here comes The Undertaker. The Brothers take apart the jobber squad with the greatest of ease. After Stereo Chokeslams and Tombstones The Brothers pose. It was good to see Taker before next year’s Wrestlemania. He looks to be in great shape and it would be nice to see him around for a little bit.

  1. JOHN CENA FAILS TO CASH IN,PUNK ATTACKS ROCK

John Cena has become the first person in 11 tries to not become champion when cashing in the Money In The Bank briefcase. However it was not because he was pinned or forced to submit. The Big Show interfered in this match not once but twice. The first time was while the referee was knocked out Big Show came out and hit the WMD on Cena. CM Punk saw the entire thing and was torn on what to do. He woke up the ref and went for the pin instead of doing the right thing however Cena kicked out at 2. Cena then reverses the GTS into the STF but once again Show attacks Cena causing the DQ. Punk just watches Show destroy Cena until The Rock comes out and attacks Show and drops him with a Spinebuster. However when Rock goes for The Peoples Elbow Punk comes back in and attacks The Rock which completely stunned the crowd. After that Punk hits the GTS on The Rock and just leaves the ring. I will be completely honest I was caught off guard with Punk going after The Rock. But after seeing this I truly think no one is going to stop CM Punk until he faces The Rock at the Royal Rumble.

The entire show was well done. I would have liked to have seen Steve Austin and Edge there however with Austin he did just have knee surgery so I am understanding of that. Edge on the other hand I am not sure what happened there. I was not expecting a lot of matches as it was more a celebration then anything. I would have liked to have seen Punk/Cena III to have gone longer and not ended in a DQ. But all in all I was impressed with the first 3 hour RAW. My rating for RAW this week is a 7.5 out of 10. Well until next time everyone keep it RAW!
