Jillian Pfeifer: Laying The Smackdown For 7/20/12

Welcome to another edition of Laying the Smackdown! This week features the return of Rey Mysterio, along with tag team competition in the forms of Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler facing Sheamus and Mysterio. Let’s get to the Top Picks for this week!

MATCH RESULTS
1. The Prime Time Players, Hunico and Camacho def. Primo, Epico, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth
2. Damien Sandow def. Zack Ryder
3. Kane def. Daniel Bryan via DQ
4. Road Warrior Animal def. Heath Slater
5. Sheamus and Rey Mysterio def. Alberto Del Rio and Dolph Ziggler via DQ

TOP PICKS

  1. MYSTERIO RETURNS

After nearly a year absence, Rey Mysterio returned on Monday to save Zack Ryder from Alberto Del Rio. Del Rio was the one who cost Mysterio the 11 month absence. Mysterio is back to exact revenge on Del Rio. Mysterio comes out to a huge pop and is way over with the crowd. Del Rio antagonizes Mysterio, which brings out Ziggler and Sheamus and a tag team match is made for the main event. I foresee a Mysterio/Del Rio match for SummerSlam.

  1. CHRISTIAN BRINGS BACK THE PEEP SHOW-GUESTS: DANIEL BRYAN AND AJ

Christian comes out and says he has seen a ton of strange things in the WWE, and Daniel Bryan’s proposal on Monday takes the cake. They talk about the wedding planning and show some mushy lovey stuff. The crowd is asked if they believe that AJ and Bryan should be married and the answer is a resounding NO! Christian asks AJ if she knows what she’s doing, this earns him a slap across the face. Christian tells Bryan that he should make sure that there are no psychotic ex-boyfriends and to check AJ’s baggage. This brings out Kane and Bryan and Kane have a match. I have a feeling that Daniel Bryan and AJ’s wedding is going to be crashed. It won’t take place on Monday’s Raw.

  1. ROAD WARRIOR ANIMAL RETURNS FOR ONE NIGHT

For the past few weeks, in commoration for the 1000th Raw on Monday, the WWE is bringing back legends to face Heath Slater. We have seen Bob Backlund, DDP, Doink the Clown, Vader, Sycho Sid, Cyndi Lauper, Wendi Richter, Roddy Piper, and Rikishi. For one night on Smackdown, it will be Road Warrior Animal. Animal makes quick work of Slater and gets the quick win. Supposedly this Monday will be the climax to the Heath Slater getting beat by Legends angle.

  1. DOLPH ZIGGLER MAKES ANOTHER ATTEMPT TO CASH IN

At Money in the Bank, Dolph Ziggler won the contract to challenge for a World Heavyweight Championship at any point in the next year. He attempted to cash in on Monday but failed when Sheamus got back up and wasn’t knocked out. He made another attempt but was foiled by Mysterio. Ziggler got a 619 and a Brogue Kick for his efforts. I foresee Ziggler keeping the briefcase for a while.

  1. BIG SHOW THREATENS TO DESTROY TAG TEAM DIVISION

After a 8 man tag team match with the PTP and Hunico and Camacho beating Primo, Epico, Kofi Kingston and R-Truth, Big Show came out and destroyed everyone except PTP. He then grabs a microphone and says “And What?”, then leaves. In my opinion, Show is just trying to get people to hate him, which he doesn’t have to do much to succeed at that. He just needs to go back to a face and be done with it. He sucks as a heel.

This week’s Smackdown gets a 4 from me. Besides Mysterio’s return, and the main event, the rest was just fluff. It was all hype for Monday’s 1000th Raw. Next week should be good because we will have the new permanent GM in place. That’s all for this week. See everyone on the next edition of Laying the Smackdown!
