PIPE BOMB! Brock Lesnar’s Return: Not A Good Thing
With Billy James
When Brock Lesnar made his return to the WWE when Lesnar came to the ring and F5 John Cena, wrestling fans everywhere are marking out for Lesnar’s return expect for one wrestling fan; me. While I’m not writing full time, I just had to drop a “Pipe Bomb” about Brock Lesnar’s return to the WWE. I know you’re saying, “Why all the hate for Brock Lesnar’s return?” Let me first say that I don’t hate Brock Lesnar. Lesnar during his first run in the WWE was a monster and he was booked accordingly to highlight this fact. Lesnar’s match with the Big Show on Smackdown where the ring collapse after Lesnar superplex Show from the top rope is one those moments in WWE history that nobody will forget. However Lesnar’s return is not a good thing and here’s why.
While people are marking out because Lesnar has return, they seem to be forgetting that Lesnar was only in the WWE for fours years (two years in OVW and two years on the main roster) before he decided to take his ball (no pun intended) and leave to go play ball. This left guys like Cena, Orton and Batista to pick up the slack and carry the company as main eventers. Lesnar left the WWE to go play football for the Minnesota Vikings but was cut after just only playing the pre season. Yes, Lesnar went on to a successful career in MMA but there’s a big difference in MMA and professional wrestling. The biggest thing as to why Lesnar’s return is not good thing is really simple if you take the time to think about. Lesnar is bringing nothing to the table in the long term.
Yes, Lesnar is going to draw in more viewers to watch the WWE as he had a huge following in the UFC but its short term. Lesnar is working on a one year agreement with a total of two appearances a month for about a total of 30 days. Rumor going around is that the main event match at WrestleMania 29 will be the Rock vs. Lesnar for the WWE title. Yes, if this match is the main event at WrestleMania 29, it will be a huge draw but again it’s just good in the short term. Personally I rather see a dream match like Stever Austin vs. CM Punk. or Arn Anderson vs. Triple H. While the WWE management is focusing on the Rock and now Lesnar, they’re forgetting one thing; develop new talent as main eventers.
You have three guys currently on the roster who deserve a super huge pushes in the main event picture; Cody Rhodes, Dolph Ziggler and Daniel Bryan. Rhodes has shown that he can hang with the big boys in matches like the Elimination Chamber and that he can put on quality matches. The same thing can be said about Ziggler who is just amazing to watch in the ring and most possibly the best heel currently on the roster. Daniel Bryan is one the best wrestlers currently on the roster and has developed into a damn good heel character with his run holding the World Heavyweight Championship. However now it looks like Bryan is getting pushed to the back burner.
WWE is heading down a path that in the long term is going to hurt the WWE as a whole. There’s old saying; “Those who do not learn from history are doom to repeat it” and that’s where the WWE is heading. WCW relayed on big name talent instead of building up new talent and it was one of the factors that lead to the end of WCW. Hopefully someone in WWE management reads this and the WWE management wakes up before it’s too late.
